Mailbox

Tonight I walked in the rain.
A shuffle to my mailbox, eyes distracted by a million little explosions in each passing puddle.
My letters & debts tucked behind, secured by an old belt with a shirt pulled over top.

Tonight I walked in the rain.
My clothes freckled from the colorful, tearful clouds as the sun dropped low.
My cap pulled off to feel coolness, my head lifted high to feel clean.

Tonight I walked in the rain,
Far past my small apartment in a slow & deliberate way.
No pain to pull apart, no solution to obtain.

Tonight I walked in the rain
And smiled because of it,

Perhaps for the first time.
